Heavy Metal

Step 1
First, create a new document & fill the background with a middle grey, like below.

Step 2
Next, we are going to use the Noise Filter to add some grain to it. Go to Filter -> Noise -> Add Noise. Set the Distribution to Gaussian & check Monochromatic. I usually set the amount to about 15%.

Step 3
Now, we can give it the metal look. We are going to use motion blur. Go to Filter -> Blur -> Motion Blur. Now set the options to Angle = 0 and Distance = 999. You should get something like below.

Step 4
Now we are going to give it a little detail to make it more realistic. Go to Image -> Adjust -> Levels. The adjustment will be different for everyone, but this was what mine looked like.Voila, you are done.

Step 5
You can add some additional effects to make this look kinda neat. This was something I whipped up real quick to show some other effects you can add.
